DanceTrance Richmond Welcome to the other side of fitness! If you are looking for a new and exciting workout you have found it! Dance Trance was created in 1986 by Jay & Beth Handline. Presently, Dance Trance locations are rapidly popping up around the globe via our Dance Trance License and Certification program. Jay & Beth presently teach Dance Trance classes at the Jacksonville, Florida location. Their program is unique because all studios share and maintain the same choreography. This keeps the music and combinations fresh and alive at each studio. At all locations each class is packed and full of energy because of the variety and music selection this tight network offers. We appreciate your interest in our unique program, and we hope you enjoy your experience. I couldn't stop smiling. It was the energy and the music. Plus, I was laughing at myself the entire time and thinking, I can't wait to come back!" That was in 1998 in Birmingham, Alabama, Sandi has since founded two DT programs. "I stepped into Dance Trance just hoping to regain my flexibility and balance after tearing my ACL in a soccer injury. I got that and so much more." After dancing with DT Birmingham for a year Sandi moved to Florida and founded the Sarasota program and she made frequent trips to Jacksonville to dance with owners/founders Jay and Beth Handline. Her professional career in television took her to Richmond in 2001 and she naturally took DT with her and founded that program. Sandi is also a mom and used DT to keep her in shape before, during and after her pregnancy. Along with Dance Trance, Sandi's dance experience includes Latin Ballet when she was a child and dancing for the Richmond Speed Arena 2 Football Team in 2002. "I can honestly say Dance Trance inspired my tryout. I saw the cheerleaders and I thought I can do that, we do it in Dance Trance! Jessica Conlon In the summer of 2002, a new college graduate, Jessica moved to Richmond for her first job. She had no family or friends nearby, just her cat and 40 pounds she gained in college. Jessica joined Gold's Gym as a way to meet people, and get fit. It was here she found Dance Trance. With only a short cheerleading background Jessica picked up on the routines quickly and befriended Sandi Davis (director). The weight went away and her love for the class grew. She became a substitute instructor when Sandi went on maternity leave in early 2003 and when the program expanded to 3 days a week in early 2005, took on her own class. Jess is now 50 pounds lighter, and as in shape as she has ever been and loving every second. "It's a unique, fun way to get and stay in shape. The class is always changing...always challenging!" Jessica spends her days working full-time as a Technologist for Dupont, but looks forward to getting into class to beat away the stress, melt away the pounds, and have a good time with her DT friends. Chinda Ou Chinda gained her passion for dancing in cheerleading. She cheered for five years and learned how to pick up choreography quickly and put it into memory. She found Dance Trance Richmond at Gold's Gym and never looked back. Chinda stuck with it because of the routines, energy and great music that is true to every class. But she especially likes that fact that it's more than dance. "It's a great way to stay in shape." Chinda is a mother of two and also goes to school full time so working out has to be fun and effective. "So many of the routines incorporate exercise movements like lunges, squats and punches so you get a total workout and you're having a good time." Sarah Barrow Sarah started dancing at a Richmond dance academy when she was 3 and continued until the age of 18; focusing primarily on ballet, pointe and jazz. She continued into college taking various dance classes on campus, but after graduation she couldn't afford to return to the academy where she started her studies. And most of the classes she stumbled into weren't inspiring enough nor did they have women her age. In order to stay healthy and in shape, Sarah became a personal trainer and after training at various gyms and trying several aerobics classes Sarah got lucky and found Dance Trance. She's been in the program for a couple of years now and says it's not only a great balance of diverse routines it's also an excellent cardiovascular workout. "The class has an awesome camaraderie and a wonderful spirit!" Constance Zedaker Constance started dancing when she was 3, focusing on tap, ballet and jazz. A couple of years into it, she decided the ballet was too slow and added cheerleading into her mix. She did some competing for both outlets but found she was excelling at cheering and left the dance behind. She was the captain of her high school cheer squad for three years and even returned while she was in college to help coach the girls she left behind. Dance resurfaced for Constance when she moved to Richmond in 2004 to become a nurse. Constance is now a diehard trancer and you'll often see her dancing in her scrubs, proving this class just might be what the doctor ordered! |
