Dance Trance Sarasota Welcome to the other side of fitness! If you are looking for a new and exciting workout you have found it! Dance Trance was created in 1986 by Jay & Beth Handline. Presently, Dance Trance locations are rapidly popping up around the globe via our Dance Trance License and Certification program. Jay & Beth presently teach Dance Trance classes at the Jacksonville, Florida location. Their program is unique because all studios share and maintain the same choreography. This keeps the music and combinations fresh and alive at each studio. At all locations each class is packed and full of energy because of the variety and music selection this tight network offers. Instructors at the Movement Center taught Melanie Jazz, Modern Dance, Tap and Ballet. As both she and her dance experience grew, Melanie began teaching younger students and participating in traveling dance productions at nearby schools. Around age 13, Melanie traded in her dance shoes for cleats and took to the soccer fields. But after moving to Sarasota in 1994, Melanie again found herself looking for something with a beat. It took one Dance Trance class and Mel was hooked, "It is what I was looking for, it is up to date, fun and challenging and I jumped at the chance to help teach." Melanie is now running the Dance Trance program in Sarasota. Leigh Raines Leigh grew up in Kentucky and took ballet, tap and jazz classes at a very young age. Throughout middle and high school, she was a cheerleader and always loved the dance routines more than the cheers. She was always choreographing routines for competitions and halftime performances. In college, Leigh had the opportunity to indulge her love of dancing through her sorority's annual fundraiser, Chi Omega Follies. They perform the opening number for the talent show and Leigh was a dancer as well as the choreographer for three years. After college, she found herself longing to participate in some type of choreographed dance because she loved it so much, but all she could find were traditional classes resulting in recitals. Then one day, she was searching the internet and I came across the Sarasota page on the Dance Trance website. She made it to her first class that Saturday and as they say, 'the rest is history'. She couldn't believe that she had finally found what I was looking for after all those years. Leigh has been going to class for over a year and attends every class that she possibly can. Leigh says "DT is my constant and it relieves any stress that I had going into class that day. It's also re-shaped my body. I've lost weight, gained muscle tone, and increased my stamina. DT is the total mind-body experience that has changed my life." Leigh is now an instructor in the program and says that "being an instructor is the greatest thing because I can help lead other people to benefit the same way I did. Attending the instructor workshop was an eye-opening experience for me because it was then that I realized how big the Dance Trance world is and how big it's going to grow. I'm excited to be a part of that and I look forward to "trancing" the rest of my life." Amy Buck Amy started taking ballet lessons at the age of four. She continued to take jazz and tap classes through junior high school. For four years, Amy was on the Crimsonette dance team at Santa Fe Catholic High School and choreographed most of the routines. She was the first to be voted best dancer all four years. In college, Amy was a member of the Auburn University Tiger Pause dance team. She danced half time shows, pep rallies, and for the troops at Fort Benning. Though she loved being a part of the dance team, she hung up her dancing shoes once she was accepted into pharmacy school. Sixteen years later after graduate school, residency, getting married, and having two children, she stumbled upon Dance Trance. After her first class, she was hooked! Dance Trance has helped recapture her joy of dancing. Amy can't imagine being without it. Candace Sweeney Candace attended her first Dance Trance class in 2006 based on a friend's recommendation, and she was immediately hooked. She got chills several times during that first class because she knew she'd found what she'd been searching for...an outlet for her love of dance. She started taking nearly every DT class offered in Sarasota, and later, began taking lessons in ballet, jazz and hip-hop. She says, "Dance Trance has changed my life! Not only am I in better physical shape than I've ever been, but the dancer in me has been awakened and I know now that dance will be a part of my life forever. I'm so excited to be an instructor! I hope that by doing this, I can share with others the incredible joy that Dance Trance, and dance in general, have brought to my life. I would also like to encourage even those with no dance experience to try this class. It's never too late to try something new!" |
